Environmental Chemistry

There are thousands of chemicals disturbing the environment in the world, with all the molecules and compounds floating everywhere, environmental chemistry studies how toxic substances move and ruins the environment.

Environmental Chemistry focuses on the chemistry of Earth. Environmental chemistry is the study of chemical procedures arising in the environment which are wedged by human activities. All the elements continuously recycle through our environment; an oxygen molecule floating in the atmosphere may be a part of your pizza the day after. Environmental chemists study the cycles and watch the elements in motion closely.
Environmental Science is the study of air, water and living environment on earth and the effects of technology on it.Environmental chemists observe the elements in air, water, and soil and study how chemicals enter the environment and affects human activity and the environment. Environmental Chemistry is the study of the behavior of pollutants with environment and the effects it has on the environment. The field of environmental chemistry is based on organic chemistry, biochemistry and biology.

Environmental Indicators

The simple measures taken to show what is happening in the environment, the tools for tracking the progress of the environment is termed as Environmental indicators. Environmental indicators examine the effects of human actions on the environment. The statistic measurement identifies the factors impacting the environment it monitors and reports activities of what is happening to the environment.
Environmental indicators is a numerical value that detect trends in the environment to describe the state of the environment and its impact on human beings, to communicate to general public to see if all the objectives in an environment are met. They are mostly used by research institutions, governments and non-government organizations.

Causes of Environmental Chemistry

A large number of chemicals have been introduced by the humans into the environment. Chemicals enter air as emissions of nitrogen and sulphur oxides from vehicles cause acid rain which in turn poisons aquatic organisms and soil that supports plants. Carbon dioxide causes the greenhouse effect and a change in climate. The disposals from chemical industries find their way into rivers and underground water causing toxic algae in rivers, making it unlivable to aquatic organisms.
Some of the causes for environmental chemistry are:
1) Air pollution

2) Global Warming

3) Toxic in Water

4) Smoke / Smog

5) Ozone Exhaustion

6) Greenhouse Effect

7) Acid Rain

8)Industrial Waste

9) Agricultural Waste

10) Waste Water Treatment

Environmental Monitoring

Environmental monitoring is also called ecological monitoring or biological monitoring. The precise sampling, information collection, observation and the study conducted on environment to provide data of air, water and soil in a location with periodic intervals is termed as Environmental Monitoring. Environmental monitoring investigates in depth of all factors that influence the environment directly and indirectly.

Environmental monitoring perceives the existence of harmful elements such as toxins, bacteria, chemicals and other pollutants in a specific locality.

Green Chemistry

Green chemistry also known as sustainable chemistry reduces or eliminates the use or generation of hazardous substances. Green chemistry prevents and reduces pollution at molecular level and minimizes and cleans up environmental contaminants.

One of the main goals of Green Chemistry is to prevent pollution and increase energy efficiency by maximizing atom economy. Green chemistry uses safer solvents and catalysts and avoids chemical derivatives that do not accumulate in the environment.
